Thank you!
On Sunday 30 June, 190 Cambridge school pupils joined author and poet Michael Rosen on stage at the Cambridge Corn Exchange to perform dance, theatre, poetry, and music and singing, with the pieces devised by the pupils during an education programme focused on refugees and asylum seekers. This included students from LVC.
After the event, which was a huge success, the organisers sent out a thank you to all the participating schools…
Many thanks for supporting our “Voices of Hope & Compassion” concert at the Corn Exchange. Having you and your singers be the core of our “Hope Singers” and form our “Hope Band” was fantastic & appreciated! Plus having your dancers and your prize-winning poets perform was breath-taking too.
Michael Rosen and I were absolutely thrilled by the performances of your school students! And we know that nothing would have been possible without the support of YOU their teachers and their families, so please accept a huge thank you from Michael and from me, and please personally thank all your singers and musicians, dancers and poets!!
Michael was blown away by the quality of the dance and drama groups, singers and musicians and poets, especially how well students adapted to being in a mass choir and staying on stage for the concert.
We felt that as teachers you had prepared the young performers really well, and the ethos of the event was expressed in Michael’s poem/song “Today, One Day” but also in the childrens’ poetry, some of whom have also suffered from extreme despair in recent conflicts and are now living in the hope for a better future today in Cambridge.
Michael Rosen is continuing to ask for donations on his Twitter and Facebook pages, as he is asking for donations to CamCRAG and the Refugee Hardship Fund, so Michael asks too if you can include words (see his suggestion below in the News Release) about ‘how to donate’ in your School newsletter and Website accounts about the concert so that we reach our £3k goal as the total, that will be fabl!!
Many thanks and best wishes, Helen (and Michael too) HISTORYWORKSTV
